Christy Canterbury received the Villa Maria Award for Outstanding Viticulture Examination Paper upon passing the Master of Wine Examination.
Christy is a wine journalist, speaker, judge and educator based in Manhattan. She has contributed articles to Decanter, Wine Enthusiast, Food Arts, Sommelier Journal, Snooth, Beverage Media, TASTED and several of blogs, including her own. Christy is the Consulting Editor to the soon-to-be released book, Rock and Vine, and was the Italy Editor for the 2007 Professional Wine Reference.
A frequent guest speaker, Christy spoke in 2012 at the European Wine Bloggers Conference in Izmir, the Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair, the Women in Wine Leadership Symposium, the Balkans International Wine Competition in Sofia and the Mediteraneo Festival in Belgrade among other events. Christy has judged wines for Ultimate Wine Challenge, Dallas Morning News/TEXSOM Wine Competition, Vinul.ro Premiile de Excelenta, Istanbul Masters of Wine Weekend and Balkans International Wine Competition. She also teaches consumers via New Yorks SideTour, Astor Center and Brooklyn Winery.
Having explored many facets of the wine industry, Christy has worked in restaurants, in retail and even in the non-profit sector. Christy was the National Wine Director for Smith & Wollensky Restaurant Group and the Global Beverage Director for Culinary Concepts by Jean-Georges Vongerichten. She also consulted for Gordon Ramsay at The London in New York. Christy was also previously the wine buyer at collector-oriented Italian Wine Merchants and even worked in public relations with New Zealand Winegrowers.
