Biography

Joined the wine trade in 1977, working in the cellars of two Australian wineries. Studied winemaking at Roseworthy Agricultural College, graduating in 1981 with an oenology degree. Then worked for three years at Berri winery, before moving to Villa Maria Winery in New Zealand.

Nine years as Chief Winemaker for the Villa Maria Estate Group of wineries in NZ. In 1993, moved to Europe and set up as a winemaking consultant, working predominantly as Director of Winemaking Operations for International Wine Services ("IWS") running "flying winemaker" projects in many different countries.

During the 10 years based in the UK also consulted for Myliko Wines and Villa Maria Estate, plus some work for Rustenberg Wines in South Africa.

Moved to Australia in 2002 after the sale of IWS to Waverley, with a plan for a slower paced existence, and set up Global Wine Solutions.

Current consultancies include Bird in Hand and Anvers (Aus), Rustenberg and Lourensford (South Africa), Errazuriz and Valdevieso (Chile), Villa Maria (NZ) and the PLB Group (UK).
