The Annual Reception, held at the at Vintners' Hall since the Vintners' Company established the qualification in 1953,is the longest running Institute event and is held to officially award the new Masters of Wine their title. Hosted by the Chairman of the Institute, Dr Josef Schuller MW, the event is open to members, Supporters, Friends and press only.
The Certificates of Membership of the Institute are presented by the Master of the Vintners' Company and, following this, prizes for outstanding performance the different parts of the Master of Wine examination are given.
The Bollinger Award is for the best student in the Practical Paper.
The Villa Maria Award is for the best performance in Paper One 'Viticulture Paper'. The Errazuriz Award is for the best Paper Three 'Business of Wine Paper'. The Robert Mondavi Award is for the best overall performance in the Theory Paper. The Tim Derouet Award is not given annually but is presented where the examinars feel that there has been a truly outstanding student. The Noval Award for the outstanding Communicator Award for the best Dissertation.
