Curly Flat Pinot Noir Technical Tasting Seminar

16 October 2017 , 6:45 PM - 9:00 PM  | London

Have you ever wondered how the individual components of one of Australia’s great pinot noirs taste?

On Monday 16 October 2017 you will have the rare opportunity to taste, in isolation, how different pinot noir clones and different winemaking methods affect the taste sensation. The seminar concludes with a tasting of finished wine, to bring together the sum of the parts of the elements involved in getting the best expression from the land.

Curly Flat is located in Australia’s cool Macedon Ranges, Victoria. For several years they have undertaken experimental trials on their pinot noir. Their detailed trials have involved hand-bottling small batches of different components from each vintage in order to continually gain better understanding of how to make the best possible expression of their site and cultivar.

Curly Flat’s owner Jeni Kolkka will present a selection of her trials, along with a member of her estate team, to explain the philosophy and precision evolution of Curly Flat to the top flight producer it is today.

Individual trial components that we will taste and discuss include:
• different clones
• destemmed versus whole bunch ferments
• new versus old oak maturation.
• indigenous versus inoculated yeast ferments

Curly Flat’s UK agent, Miles Corish MW, will moderate this unique seminar, which promises to explore how these individual factors influence the flavour profile of top quality cool climate Aussie pinot noir.

This seminar is now full, if you would like to be added to the waiting list, please contact Chloe Thompson

The Seminar will take place from 1845 to 2100 at The Institute of Masters of Wine, 6 Riverlight Quay, Kirtling Street (Off Cringle Street), London, SW11 8EA
