Biography

Madeleine Stenwreth is an international wine consultant based in Sweden. She consults globally to high profile wine producers on product development, blending, quality and style strategy, also in relation to the requirements of specific target markets. Her clients also include leading importing companies across the Nordic markets, generic wine marketing bodies and trade organizations as well as various educational institutes. Madeleine is an appreciated coach and mentor for trade professionals, a speaker at seminars, holds master-classes and runs inspirational & educational benchmark tastings. She lectures at sommelier academies, culinary universities and for WSET Diploma students. Madeleine is Panel Chair at the International Wine Challenge, IWC, in London and has been a frequent international guest judge at other highly respected wine competitions such as Argentina Wine Awards, Air New Zealand Wine Awards, Decanter WWA, Spain´s Bacchus, Grand Jury at the Wines of Portugal Challenge, Australia´s Royal Adelaide Wine Show, Riverina Wine Show & International Sweet Wine Challenge, as well as South Africa´s Top 100 and Veritas Awards. In 2008 she became an MW, one of only two in Sweden, and received the Quinta do Noval Award for her dissertation “The effect of altitude on Malbec in Mendoza". Prior to setting up her consultancy she worked as the quality & product development manager for a leading Nordic wine importing group, as a wine buyer for Systembolaget, the Swedish alcohol retailing monopoly, as marketing manager for Wines of South Africa (WOSA), as head Sommelier and in various managerial F&B roles at 5-star Relais & Châteaux. Having been raised in a restaurateur-family she studied to become one of the first Swedish Sommeliers in 1990 and in 1994 she won the Inter-Scandinavian Sommelier Contest as the most talented young Sommelier in Scandinavia. Several international scholarships and awards further triggered her dedication and passion for the world of wine.
