2010 Champagne Trinity Scholarship - Deadline for Submissions

08 Dec 09

The deadline is approaching for students to apply for the 2010 Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW) Champagne Trinity Scholarship, which offers a superb opportunity to see the workings of three distinguished Champagne houses at first hand.

The Institute, in association with Champagne Bollinger, Pol Roger and Louis Roederer, offers the scholarship to a first-year Master of Wine student from anywhere in the world.

The scholarship consists of two consecutive trips to the Champagne region, one during vintage and another during the blending of the vins clairs in the spring. It is a unique opportunity for a student to gain insight into Champagne through visits to the three family-owned houses.

Applications for the scholarship must be submitted in the form of an essay written on the following topic:

How to manage a Champagne brand through a recession?

The essay must be written in English with a maximum length of 1,000 words. Applications should be submitted to the Institute’s Education Manager, Peter Csizmadia-Honigh, via e-mail not later than 1700 GMT on Tuesday 5 January 2010.

On behalf of the sponsoring Champagne houses, James Simpson MW of Pol Roger said: “Despite the recession, the quality of wine from the top champagne houses has never been better and, whilst consumers may be finding times tough, they are still looking for value allied with quality and heritage. The houses of Bollinger, Pol Roger and Roederer represent exactly these qualities and are delighted once more to be sponsoring the pursuit of excellence amongst the students of the Institute of Masters of Wine.”

Speaking for the IMW, Executive Director Siobhan Turner said: “Students of the Institute have enjoyed the benefits of this generous scholarship for years and we are grateful for the continued support of all three family-owned Champagne houses. I would urge first-year students to enter for this scholarship as it provides an unrivalled opportunity to see the work of these three distinguished Champagne houses at first hand.”
