The MW Examination Wines

The Institute of Masters of Wine has published the list of wines used in the 2016 Practical Examination.

The full list can be found here, along with the accompanying questions and all of the questions from the Theory component of the MW Examination.

A record number of students took the Theory and Practical element of the MW Examination from 7 June to 10 June 2016 in London, San Francisco and Sydney.

In addition to the MW Examination, over 90 students sat the Stage 1 Assessment in Sydney, London and San Francisco on 6 June 2016. The Stage 1 Assessment is a one-day examination comprising a 12 wine blind-tasting exam in the morning and a Theory exam in the afternoon. Progression to Stage 2 of the MW Study Programme is dependent on success in the Stage 1 Assessment.

The list of wines and questions used in the Stage 1 Assessment can be found here.

Applications to join the MW Study Programme are now open until 22 July 2016. Find out more and apply here.

A new home for the Institute

The Institute of Masters of Wine has announced it is to buy its own permanent Headquarters, and will be moving in December 2016. The new office will be in Vauxhall, London, on the south bank of the River Thames close to the historic Battersea Power Station.

Twice the size of the existing space in Fitzroy Square, the new Headquarters will host many of the Institute’s events, as well as providing a tailor made space to hold study days for its global body of students throughout the year. In addition, Masters of Wine will have a space to call home in London.

By establishing a permanent base, the move reflects the Institute’s confidence in its future, and the need to look after its growing Membership and student body. Next week the Institute will hold its annual examinations, when a record number of students will be tested on their understanding of many facets in the world of wine.

Sarah Jane Evans MW, Chairman of the Institute said:

‘This is a significant step in the growth of the Institute of Masters of Wine. It shows just how much we have grown, and highlights our ambitions for the future in continuing to promote excellence, interaction and learning. These purpose-built offices will enable us to give our Members and students worldwide more effective support, and to welcome the wider wine community.’
