Alice Archer MW

Became an MW 2026

Based in United Kingdom , United Kingdom

Alice is recognised for her expertise in Champagne, her sensory precision, and her leadership across key commercial sectors of the fine-wine world. Educated at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, she brings intellectual discipline and cultural breadth to her analytical approach to wine. Her early fascination with flavour and texture was nurtured by her maternal grandmother, a longstanding food writer, whose work sparked a keen interest in the sensory relationship between food and wine.

Beginning her career at Cambridge Wine Merchants, a multi-award-winning independent, Alice led en primeur campaigns covering the classic appellations, gaining experience in vintage assessment, producer relationships and market dynamics. A monthly wine segment on local radio, honed her clarity and accessibility as a communicator, whilst a formative harvest in Stellenbosch added hands-on experience in viticulture and winemaking.

Subsequent roles have spanned senior responsibilities in both buying and sales, encompassing luxury retail, strategic brand work and portfolio development. This has included managing new vintage releases to Fine Wine Merchants at Moët Hennessy UK, and buying at Harrods, curating their Champagne and Burgundy selections for an international clientele.

Alongside judging at the IWC and IWSC, her sensory ability has been recognised through the WSET Diploma McNie Tasting Trophy and the Royal Tokaji Prize. Alice served as Chairman of the Champagne Academy in 2019, is a member of the Ordre des Coteaux de Champagne, and is an active Liveryman of the Vintners’ Company.
