24 Oct 13

Six international students on the Master of Wine Study Programme have won scholarships on the French Wine Society’s Sud de France course.

Barbara Boyle (Ireland), Stefan Metzner (Germany), and Thomas Curtius (Germany) elected to take the course in London; Tan Ying Hsien (Singapore) and Philip Hedger (USA) took up their scholarship places in New York.  Mark Pygott (UK), the final scholarship winner, was able to participate online.

This competition was open to all students on the IMW Study Programme, in all regions, and at any stage of their studies.   Selection was by an essay written in English on the following topic: “Is the Languedoc-Roussillon the next "classic" wine region of France?”

According to Matthew Stubbs MW, who conducted the two-day master-classes for the winners in both London and New York, "The Languedoc-Roussillon has always struggled to break into the "big league" of French Wine regions.  This course is one way to help put that right!"
