Estates and Wines joins the Institute of Masters of Wine's international supporter community

05 Nov 18

The Institute of Masters of Wine has welcomed Estates and Wines to its family of international supporters.

The IMW now has 29 Supporters from around the world, who work jointly with the IMW to promote its mission of excellence, interaction and learning across all sectors of the global wine community.

Estates and Wines has wine estates located in some of the most recognised wine regions today. With their global portfolio of wines, the IMW looks forward to working with their estates to enhance the experience of students in the MW study programme, and beyond.

Maggie Henriquez, President of Estates and Wines said, “Estates and Wines is delighted to become a Supporter of the Institute of Masters of Wine – an exceptional and respected organisation, which shares our commitment to professional excellence in wine. We have had the pleasure of working with many students and Masters of Wine over the years and strongly believe in the continuous development of wine education as part of the evolution of the world of wine.”

Estates and Wines – the wine division of Moët Hennessy – is a collection of wine estates around the world, each of which was born from the dreams of pioneering founders, who sought out great terroirs to create exceptional wines. In the Southern Hemisphere, they include Cloudy Bay in Marlborough and Cape Mentelle one of the founding wineries in Margaret River, Australia. In Mendoza, Terrazas de los Andes is a leader in high-altitude vineyards, as well as in the development of exporting world-class wines from Argentina since the 1990s. Cheval des Andes is the Argentinian expression of Cheval Blanc, the only joint venture of this kind to which a Saint-Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classé "A" gives its name.

In the Napa Valley, Peter Newton’s vision to re-interpret French classics comes to life at the Newton estate on Spring Mountain. In Spain, Numanthia has put a spotlight on the Toro region and, most recently, Ao Yun has started a journey in the Himalayas, creating refined wines from this mystical region.

Adrian Garforth MW, Chairman of the IMW said, “Many Masters of Wine will know a number of the wineries that sit within Estates and Wines, and we are delighted to start a more formal partnership with such a range of producers, and styles, and geographies. We share a common drive to promote excellence in the global wine industry, and look forward to many fruitful activities together.”

About the Institute of Masters of Wine
The Institute of Masters of Wine is a membership organisation with an unsurpassed international reputation. The Masters of Wine (MWs) hold the most respected title in the world of wine. The IMW promotes excellence, interaction and learning across all sectors of the global wine community. MWs have proved their understanding of all aspects of wine by passing the MW examination, recognised worldwide for its rigour and high standards. In addition to passing the examination, MWs are required to sign a code of conduct before they are entitled to use the initials MW. The code of conduct requires MWs to act with honesty and integrity, and use every opportunity to share their understanding of wine with others. There are currently 380 Masters of Wine today, working in 30 countries. The membership encompasses winemakers, buyers, journalists, shippers, business owners, consultants, academics, and wine educators. There are 360 students in the 2018-2019 MW study programme, from 45 countries.
