About the panellists
Gérard Bertrand:
Deeply attached and committed to the Languedoc and the Roussillon terroirs, Gérard Bertrand owns 16 Châteaux and wine-growing estates. Convinced that a viticulture in harmony with nature is the best way to make great wines that reflect all the nuances of their terroir, Gérard Bertrand made the choice to adopt biodynamic practices in the vineyard early-on and is today a worldwide reference in biodynamics. Known for his great talent for blending as well as for his audacity and creativity, he and his teams strive for promoting the South of France wines throughout the world.
Nathalie Estribeau:
A French winemaker who studied in Bordeaux and trained in Australia. Nathalie was fortunate to learn with very open-minded winemakers among some of the best wineries (Penfolds). From there Nathalie developed brands for the UK markets and other export markets. One of the first new rose projects she was involved with was a pinot grigio blush back in the late 90’s. Nathalie later joined Foncalieu in 2018 to lead the wine team and continue the fantastic rosé development, as well as working on some unique projects such as new disease-free varieties.
Bruno Mailliard:
CEO of Grands Domaines du Littoral, Bruno holds a master’s degree in Agronomy and Oenologist from Montpellier SupAgro School. After studying in Montpellier, he remained in the south of France… a magic spot to grow vines and create wines. Bruno Mailliard started his career in a cooperative winery in the western part of Languedoc where he had the opportunity to vinify grapes from great terroirs such as Cabardès or Malepère. Ten years ago he moved to join the Vranken Pommery Group where he is now CEO of its south of France subsidiary dedicated to rosé wines, Grands Domaines du Littoral (which means : large wine estates on the mediterranean coastline). They grow organic 2 000 ha (4942 ac) of vines in Provence (Château la Gordonne – 83 Pierrefeu du Var) and Sable de Camargue (Domaine Royal de Jarras – 30 Aigues-Mortes). Due to their terroir conditions and locations, they have been naturally producing, mainly rosé wines, for over a century.
Rosana Lisa:
Born in Huesca, the beautiful Pyrenean mountain region, Rosana graduated in Chemistry and obtained her Masters degree in Oenology in 2002 from La Rioja University. She has extensive winemaking experience, beginning her career at Roda in Spain and then moving to other prestigious producers in different appellations – including in Calatayud and Cariñena where she focused on winemaking with Garnacha grapes. She was at Dominio de la Sierpe in Navarra when she decided to make the jump to Bodegas Ramón Bilbao and she’s now been with us for nine years. Today she is Rodolfo’s right hand man and Chief Winemaker, and she is also in charge of our research projects taking on the title of Innovation Manager for Wines and Deputy Technical Director. She also heads up Lalomba, our exclusive vineyard project. Rosana is also finding time to undertake her WSET Diploma in Bordeaux.
Dimitris Skouras:
Dimitris Skouras, son of George Skouras, studied Viticulture Chemistry in Montpellier and graduated with the National Diploma of Oenology. Dimitris is the new generation of Domaine Skouras, a winery located in the Peloponnese, Southern Greece, amongst the vineyards of Nemea. Domaine Skouras is a family owned business and is one of the leading wineries of Greece. With a five-year long experience having worked in regions such as the Rhone Valley – Guigal, Bordeaux – Moueix, Champagne; also, in Greece at Santorini and Kefalonia island and finally in the USA in Sonoma and Napa Valley. Dimitris is very focused on the cultivation of terroir driven vineyards and the vinification of high-quality wines which show structure and elegance.
