Our expert panellists will tackle how climate change affects the wine trade, from the impact on grape varieties to consumer behaviour. Each speaker will provide their insight and strategy for these topics.

This webinar is free to attend. Questions are welcome and will be covered in the final 30 minutes of the session.

About the panellists

Wendy Cameron MW
Wendy Cameron is an experienced winemaker who commenced working in her parent’s family winery in North East Victoria before joining Brown Family Wine Group. She spent the next 17 years, initially as a hands-on winemaker, but then became head of winemaking, where she had responsibility for the vineyards and wineries in Victoria and Tasmania and the development and production of their diverse range of grape varieties and wine styles. Wendy has been a committee member of the Australian Society Viticulture and Oenology (ASVO) and was awarded the inaugural ASVO Winemaker of the Year Award in 2012 and was made a Fellow of the ASVO in 2020. Wendy became a Master of Wine in 2015 and has recently submitted her PhD ‘Effect of temperature on grapevine phenology’, which she did at the University of Melbourne.

Kieran Hirlam (project engineer, Australian Wine Research Institute)
Kieran Hirlam is a senior project engineer within commercial services at the Australian Wine Research Institute (AWRI). Kieran’s work over the last seven years has focused on sustainability within the wine and agriculture sectors. Kieran has been involved in life cycle analysis for individual wineries striving to become carbon neutral and big picture environmental footprinting to understand the impacts of alternative packaging for numerous suppliers. He has further delved into understanding waste transformation opportunities within the wine industry and broadened this to other agricultural and horticultural sectors.

Dr Mardi Longbottom (manager, sustainability and viticulture, Australian Wine Research Institute)
Dr Longbottom began her career in the wine industry in the early 1990s, helping to establish her family’s vineyards in Padthaway, South Australia. Shortly afterwards, she gained her viticultural degree and held technical and vineyard management positions spanning numerous Australian wine regions. Mardi returned to the University of Adelaide in 2002, where she completed a Masters and PhD in Viticulture and was a Lecturer in Viticulture. For the past ten years, Mardi has focussed on research and extension of wine industry sustainability projects including regional climate risk analyses, benchmarking greenhouse gas emissions from vineyards, the management of corporate water assets, and she manages the Australian wine industry’s sustainability program, ‘Sustainable Winegrowing Australia’. Mardi is a graduate of the SA Governor’s Leadership Foundation Program and she is a director of the Australian Society of Viticulture and Oenology.

Juan Park (Director, Wine Intelligence, Spain and South America)
Juan Park is the Director of Wine Intelligence for Spain and South America. Wine Intelligence, a market research and consultancy company based in London, studies the behaviour of over 100,000 consumers a year in over 35 countries. Juan has a Degree in Sociology from the University of Salamanca and a master’s in Research from the London School of Economics (LSE).
