Australian-based Master of Wine Andrew Caillard MW has been working on some new and exciting projects: recently published books Imagining Coonawarra and Penfolds The Rewards of Patience, documentary film Blind Ambition and podcast series Australian Grapevine Stories. You can read more information on these projects below.
Imagining Coonawarra
Imagining Coonawarra, The Story of Wynns John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon published by Hardie Grant 2020 was released to coincide with the launch of Wynns John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon on La Place de Bordeaux in September 2020. The book is the most detailed history of Coonawarra in recent years and is a useful reference for those interested in the 19th Century ambitions of colonial Australia and the development of a important wine aesthetic. The book is available at Wynns Coonawarra Estate cellar door or it can be downloaded for free at www.wynns.com.au, Google.com or Amazon.com.
Penfolds The Rewards of Patience
Penfolds The Rewards of Patience, published by Hardie Grant is an Australian tradition since 1985. The long-awaited 8th edition of this series, written by Andrew, is a collector’s guide of all things Penfolds, “offering collectors updated authentic and independent third-party reviews of Penfold’s entire red, white, fortified & Champagne portfolio”. The book is available in English and Mandarin, cellar door and at www.penfolds.com.
Blind Ambition
Andrew is the associate producer of the recently completed Blind Ambition, a feature-length documentary film which is scheduled for theatrical release in 2021. The story is about four Zimbabwean sommeliers and their quest to compete in the world blind wine tasting Competition in Burgundy. Jasper Morris MW and Jancis Robinson MW are also featured in the story. The film was produced and directed by Warwick Ross and Rob Coe of Third Man films.
Grapevine Stories
Andrew also wrote and narrated a four-part podcast series entitled Australian Grapevine Stories for the 13th Terroir Congress which took place in Adelaide in November. The story follows the transmission of vinestock material to Australia from the earliest days of settlement to the present day.
