Caro Maurer MW awarded Bacchus Prize

Caro Maurer MW has been awarded the 2021 Bacchus Prize in the international category. The ceremony took place on 4 November at Esterházy Palace in Eisenstadt  The prize is awarded annually, and winners are selected based on merit and contribution to Austrian wine.

Caro also chose the name for this year’s baptismal wine, a Pinot Blanc from the Mad winery in Oggau, which Pastor Ingrid Tschank and Pastor Günther Kroiss blessed that evening on behalf of all Austrian wines of the 2021 vintage. Together with Hans Niessl, they named it ‘Courage’ – after a difficult year faced due to the pandemic and the Ahr valley flood. Caro said, “Having helped out at Ahr quite often I saw that people can survive and overcome the worst. There, I only met people with courage. One only needs courage to go on.”
