James Lawther is a British wine writer based in France. He retailed wine at Steven Spurrier's Caves de la Madeleine in Paris from 1983-1989, also acting as a lecturer at the Académie du Vin. He passed the Master of Wine in 1993. He is now an independent consultant and wine writer contributing to Decanter Magazine, The World of Fine Wine and Académie du Vin Library. He is the author of The Finest Wines of Bordeaux and The Heart of Bordeaux. He also lectures on wine and acts as a guide in the French and Spanish wine regions. He has participated as an international wine judge (Air New Zealand Wine Awards, Margaret River Wine Show, Bacchus International Wine Competition) and was a member of the Comit� d'Orientation Scientifique for the Cit� du Vin in Bordeaux.
