Kym has worked in the wine industry for over 30 years and in 2013 was listed in the Top 10 Most Influential Winemaking Consultants worldwide by The Drinks Business Magazine (UK). A winemaking graduate of Roseworthy College in Australia, his experience includes winemaking in Australia, followed by a nine year stint in New Zealand as Chief Winemaker for Villa Maria winery, also qualifying as a Master of Wine in 1991 whilst in New Zealand. From there to the UK for ten years as Director of Winemaking Operations for International Wine Services, managing winemaking projects throughout Europe, South Africa and South America.
In 2003 Kym moved back to Australia and now runs his own winemaking consultancy Global Wine Solutions, with clients in Australia and around the world. Recent accolades include - Winestate Magazine Australian Winemaker of the Year 2014 & 2015; 2019 Red Winemaker of the Year – IWC, London.
Kym has extensive judging experience, having recently been Chairman of Judges at the Royal Adelaide Wine Show in 2021. He was Chairman of Judges at the Sydney International Wine Competition from 2004 – 2018 and has judged at many competitions around the world, including in England, Sth Africa, New Zealand, China and Slovenia.
