This six night trip will explore two of the smallest and most beautiful wine regions in France: Alsace and Jura.
Alsace with its dramatic mountain landscape is well known for its stunningly concentrated aromatic white wines – but warming temperatures here have encouraged an exciting revival of Pinot Noir in the region. The trip will focus on a range of producers, many small family wineries, based in picturesque mediaeval villages in both Haut-Rhin and Bas-Rhin. Seminars and tastings will compare wines from granite vs. limestone, Pinot Noir renaissance, Vins Nature, old vintages, Cremant d’Alsace and the high quality of dry Riesling in Alsace – as well as Grand Cru vineyard visits and focus on organic and biodynamic viticulture led by Olivier Humbrecht MW.
The second part of the trip will explore the tiny, remote, but enchanting, Jura region, tucked between the Bresse plain and magnificently rugged Jura mountains. This idyllic bucolic wine region in rural France is a haven of unusual grapes and authentic styles. Seminars and tastings in Arbois and Chateau Chalon will focus on Vin Jaune and Savagnin – as well as sparkling wines, unusual Trousseau and Poulsard reds and sweet ‘straw’ wines – with a focus on Jura’s organic and biodynamic viticulture with renowned winemakers.
This is the first time that IMW Trips Committee have organised a combined trip to Alsace and Jura. The trip includes airport transfers (Basel to Colmar and Arbois to Geneva) – as well as transfer between the regions from Colmar in Alsace to Arbois in Jura – by comfortable air-conditioned coach. Please note that the cost of the trip reflects the fact that we will be visiting two small regions with very limited budgets.
This trip is for a group of 25 MWs.
Applications for this trip are open until 27th November.
