Over the course of the past decade or so, South Africa has become one of the most exciting wine-producing countries in the world. Discover the reasons for the country’s growing success on a trip that will take in some of the country’s premium wine-growing regions, from the cooler zones of Elgin and coastal Hemel-en-Aarde to the warmer inland vineyards of the Breede River Valley. During the visit to Stellenbosch, participants will be able to dig deep into the region’s terroir, taste the diversity of its hallmark grape varieties and explore its viticultural diversity. Seminars and tastings will focus on a broad range of topics, including South Africa’s Old Vine Project, black-owned brands and technical innovations.
The trip will be led by Cathy van Zyl MW and Richard Kershaw MW, and there are 44 further places available for MWs.
Participants should arrive in Cape Town during the day if possible on 11 November, and the trip will end by early afternoon on 20 November.
Applications close on Thursday 25 May. If oversubscribed (more than 44 applications), 10% of places will be offered for selection by the hosts and the remaining chosen via a random lottery. Successful applicants will be informed by mid-June.
Trip fee
Attendees will be required to pay a non-refundable trip fee of £500.
