NORTH GREECE MW TRIP
15-20 June 2025 | Hosted by the Greek Wine Federation and Association of Winemakers of North Greece

Macedonia is home to one of the world’s oldest winemaking cultures dating back over five millennia and is divided into three prefectures—West, Central, and East—alongside Thrace. In the East, vineyards extend across mountain slopes and plains, benefiting from southern sea influences, while the West features the cooler, mountainous terrain of the Pindos mountain range. Xinomavro is the noble red grape of Northern Greece and is predominantly found in the PDO zones of Amyndeo, Naoussa, and Goumenissa. Participants will explore the diverse expressions of this iconic grape alongside other indigenous varieties like Assyrtiko and Malagousia and will discover local wines, including “new wave” Retsinas and sparkling wines. Most importantly, the group will be introduced to some of Greece’s leading winemakers, who will share their knowledge, vision and passion for making Greek wine. The trip will also include a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Palace of Aigai in Vergina, the opportunity to explore the vibrant city of Thessaloniki and the serene wine village of Nymfaio – one of Greece’s most picturesque and untouched villages, culminating in a deeply immersive journey into the wine culture of Northern Greece.
