Amorim Family Estates becomes official supporter of the Institute of Masters of Wine

LONDON, UK, 22 JUNE 2026 — The Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW) is delighted to welcome Amorim Family Estates, comprising the Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, Taboadella and Herdade Aldeia de Cima wine projects, as an official supporter. The projects are led by Luisa Amorim and span three distinct Portuguese regions; the Douro, the Dão and the Alentejo.
Through this agreement, these three wine projects join the Institute of Masters of Wine’s global network of supporters, contributing to its mission to foster excellence, interaction and learning across all areas of the wine world and reflecting a shared commitment to wine education and knowledge exchange. The relationship provides a platform for future collaborations around Portuguese wine regions, native grape varieties, viticultura heritage and broader educational initiatives connected to Portugal.
Luisa Amorim commented: “We are very proud to support the Institute of Masters of Wine and its remarkable work in advancing wine knowledge and education internationally. Portugal has an extraordinary wine heritage, with more than 250 native grape varieties, unique regions and a deep culture of blending. We believe this partnership is a meaningful way to contribute to the future of wine, while helping share the richness and diversity of Portuguese wine with a global community.”
Sarah Harrison, IMW executive director, added: “We are proud to have Amorim Family Estates as part of our supporter community and excited by the opportunities it provides for our members and students to deepen their knowledge of the diverse regions their portfolio represents. We look forward to working closely together in nurturing the next generation of wine leaders.

About the wine projects led by Luisa Amorim
Luisa Amorim leads wine projects in three distinct Portuguese regions. As part of the Amorim family’s wine legacy, she oversees Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo in the Douro and Taboadella in the Dão. She is also behind Herdade Aldeia de Cima in the Alentejo, a private project that further reflects her long-standing commitment to Portuguese terroir, wine culture, hospitality and the international projection of Portugal through wine. Together, these projects express a contemporary and deeply rooted vision of Portugal through wine – one that brings together landscape, history, native grape varieties, architecture, gastronomy and a strong sense of cultural identity.

About the Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW)
The IMW is a membership organisation with an exceptional international reputation. For more than 70 years, its members—the Masters of Wine (MWs)—have been at the forefront of leadership and expertise in the world of wine. The IMW’s mission is to foster excellence, interaction and learning across all sectors of the global wine community. MWs prove their comprehensive understanding of wine by passing the MW exam, recognised worldwide for its rigour and exacting standards. In addition to passing the exam, members must sign the code of conduct before they are entitled to use the initials MW. This requires them to uphold the highest standards of commercial conduct within the industry. Today, there are 427 Masters of Wine working in 31 countries. The membership encompasses winemakers, sommeliers, buyers, journalists, shippers, consultants, viticulturalists, academics, educators and more. There are 320 students from 46 countries in the 2025-26 MW study programme. The IMW works with 38 supporters and four research and industry associates, who help promote the IMW’s mission. The five principal supporters are Austrian Wine, AXA Millésimes, Champagne Bollinger, Constellation Brands and VSPT Wine Group. The IMW’s International Symposium is a highlight of the global wine calendar, bringing together leading figures from across the industry. The 11th International Symposium will take place in Adelaide, South Australia, in April 2027, offering four days of world-class tastings, thought-provoking presentations, debate and opportunities to explore Australia’s diverse wine regions.
