Constellation Brands awards stage 2 scholarship to MW student Robert Emery

The Institute of Masters of Wine is pleased to announce that Constellation Brands has awarded a stage 2 scholarship to MW student Robert Emery. This is the second North America scholarship Constellation Brands, a major supporter of the Institute has awarded this academic year.
Robert has been working in wine for over twenty years and is now settled in Napa, California where he is the General Manager at Amici Cellars in Calistoga. He will receive $2,000 to support his preparation for the MW examination and will also be invited to Constellation Brands wineries to interact with personnel from winery production, marketing and Constellation Brands MWs – Nova Cadamatre MW, Mark de Vere MW and Peter Marks MW – for two days.
All North America based stage 2 students in the MW study programme were given the opportunity to win the scholarship, by submitting an essay on the following question, set by Constellation Brands: Fifty years ago, Robert Mondavi had a vision that California wines would one day be considered amongst the great wines of the world. To what extent has his vision come true, and what further opportunities should California wine address?
On hearing the news of his winning essay, Robert said, “Frankly I’m still shocked that I won because I know my fellow candidates are an incredibly talented group. I am most excited about the one-on-one time with the staff at Constellation, which I know will bring invaluable insights and perspective. I thank you very much for the opportunity!”
Peter Marks MW, Vice President of Wine Education at Constellation Brands, said, “Robert’s outstanding essay demonstrated a clear understanding of the successes, challenges, and opportunities of California wines in the global context. He embodied Mr. Mondavi’s philosophy that while we’ve made huge strides in the last 50 years, we still have room to grow the reputation and quality of Californian wines. We are delighted to award Robert this scholarship and excited to help him pursue his dream of becoming a Master of Wine.”
Earlier in the academic year, Constellation Brands awarded a scholarship to MW student Lauren McPhate, for her performance in the stage 1 assessment.
