Cava is the D.O. which exports the most wine from Spain with over 70% of its sales being made internationally. Its 349 associated wineries are present in over 100 countries. The D.O. encompasses more than 93,900 acres of vineyards and more than 6,100 winegrowers.

D.O. Cava alongside the IMW look forward to bringing more awareness to Cava across the IMW community.

Executive Director of the IMW, Julian Gore-Booth says: “The IMW is very happy to welcome Cava as a supporter. Some 200 producers are now registered with the Cava Consejo Regulador and knowing and understanding Cava represents an important part of the journey of any Master of Wine (MW) or MW student. We look forward to developing our relationship over the years ahead.”

Javier Pagés, President of D.O. Cava Regulatory Council also commented: “We are delighted to announce our supporter agreement with the Institute of Masters of Wine. The collaboration with this esteemed group of wine professionals is a flagship moment for us to showcase Cava’s prestigious cuvées and sustainability credentials to the industry.”

About the Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW)
The IMW is a membership organisation with an exceptional international reputation. For 70 years, its members – the Masters of Wine (MWs) – have been at the forefront of leadership and expertise in the world of wine. The IMW’s mission is to promote excellence, interaction and learning across all sectors of the global wine community. MWs prove their comprehensive understanding of wine by passing the MW exam, recognised worldwide for its rigour and exacting standards. In addition to passing the exam, members must sign the code of conduct before they are entitled to use the initials MW. This requires them to uphold the highest standards of commercial conduct within the industry. Today, there are 416 Masters of Wine working in 31 countries. The membership encompasses winemakers, sommeliers, buyers, journalists, shippers, consultants, viticulturalists, academics, educators and more. There are 367 students from 40 countries in the 2022-23 MW study programme. The IMW works with 37 supporters and four research and industry associates, who help promote the IMW’s mission. The five principal supporters are Austrian Wine, AXA Millésimes, Champagne Bollinger, Constellation Brands and VSPT Wine Group.
