Institute brings Australian information sessions for potential students to Adelaide and Sydney

The Institute of Masters of Wine will be presenting two information sessions for potential students in Australia in November, with the aim of communicating the appeal of joining one of the world’s most important wine communities.

A number of Masters of Wine will be presenting an introduction to the Institute and to the MW Study Programme in Adelaide on 23 November 2015, and in Sydney on 28 November 2015.

Sarah Jane Evans MW, Chairman of the IMW, said: “I am really looking forward to hosting these informal sessions, introducing the IMW and what the Study Programme is all about. The IMW in Australia is growing fast. Michael Hill Smith AM MW was our first Australian MW; and just last week we welcomed three new Australian MWs into the Institute – Wendy Cameron MW, Miles Corish MW and Andrea Pritzker MW.”

These information sessions come shortly after the enormously successful IMW Trip to Australia in early October. This visit by 45 Masters of Wine to 10 Australian wine regions, with Australia’s First Families of Wine as the major Sponsor, raised local interest in the Institute to a new height. There are currently 24 Masters of Wine in Australia, and the Master of Wine Examination has been held in Sydney since 1992.

Drew Noon MW, owner and winemaker at the Noon Winery in McLaren Vale, became a Master of Wine in 1998. Drew says “I took the Exam to broaden and consolidate my wine knowledge – and it’s certainly done that. But what I didn’t expect is the opportunities and pleasures that have arisen from being connected via the Institute to a global community of wine professionals.”

The introductory sessions will provide in-depth information about the MW Study Programme including entrance requirements, fees, programme structure and assessments, as well as giving an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the programme and its requirements from Masters of Wine and the Institute’s Education team.

Andrew Caillard MW, Fine Wine Principal at Pinnacle Drinks and a Master of Wine since 1993, says “The MW programme in Australia is a passport to an international career in wine. The journey might be arduous but from my perspective success it meant I could invent my own future rather than rely on patronage. The MW programme instills discipline and singularity of purpose. Rather than creating a club or group think mentality, it demands wine professionals to find their own voice. This is a highly empowering and enlightening experience for ambitious and inquisitive minds.”

The Sydney session will take place at the Prince Wine Store, Zetland, and the Adelaide session will take place at the National Wine Centre of Australia.

Ends (10 Nov 2015)
