Programme and tickets now available for the IMW’s 10th international symposium
The Institute of Masters of Wine is delighted to launch ticket sales for its 10th International Symposium in Wiesbaden, Germany, in 2023. Coinciding with the launch is a first look at the not to be missed programme.
Open to anyone to attend, the symposium will run over four stimulating days from 29 June to 2 July 2023. The hosts for this seminal event are the Deutsches Weininstitut (DWI), the city of Wiesbaden and the federal state of Hessen.
The symposium seeks to take a critical look at the world of wine and its future. There will be world-class tastings, thought-provoking presentations and controversial debate, as well as themed lunches and dinners organised by our sponsors and hosts. The impressive line-up of high-profile speakers includes Dr Laura Catena, John Malkovich and Jancis Robinson MW. More than thirty presenters are scheduled to participate.
Germany will provide the perfect setting to hold the IMW’s flagship event through exceptional tastings, provocative talks, breath-taking locations and tours, and outstanding networking opportunities – the heart of the symposium programme.
It is expected to be another sold out event with early bird ticket sales launching today via www.imwsymposium.com
Monika Reule, managing director of the DWI, said, “In 2023, the who’s who of the international wine community will gather in Wiesbaden for ground-breaking seminars and tasting-sessions. We will ensure that participants remember Germany fondly, not only as outstanding hosts but also as an important wine nation with great landscapes and outstanding wines.”
Julian Gore-Booth, IMW executive director, said, “The IMW international symposium is the Olympics of the wine world. This is where the global wine community comes together under one roof, where excellence and innovation is shared and where networks are born. We invite you to be part of it and join us in the beautiful city of Wiesbaden.”
The IMW’s symposium traditionally takes place every four years, the previous event was held in Spain, 2018. However, the 2022 symposium, initially planned for Adelaide, Australia, had to be postponed due to the pandemic.

About the Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW)
The IMW is a membership organisation with an exceptional international reputation. For almost 70 years, its members – the Masters of Wine (MWs) – have been at the forefront of leadership and expertise in the world of wine. The IMW’s mission is to promote excellence, interaction and learning across all sectors of the global wine community. MWs prove their comprehensive understanding of wine by passing the MW exam, recognised worldwide for its rigour and exacting standards. In addition to passing the exam, members must sign the code of conduct before they are entitled to use the initials MW. This requires them to uphold the highest standards of commercial conduct within the industry. Today, there are 415 Masters of Wine working in 31 countries. The membership encompasses winemakers, sommeliers, buyers, journalists, shippers, consultants, viticulturalists, academics, educators and more. There are 349 students from 40 countries in the 2022-23 MW study programme. The IMW works with 36 supporters and three research and industry associates, who help promote the IMW’s mission. The five principal supporters are Austrian Wine, AXA Millésimes, Constellation Brands, the Madame Bollinger Foundation, and Waitrose and Partners.
