Spanish Foundation for Wine Culture offers new scholarship to IMW students
The Spanish Foundation for Wine Culture (La Fundación para la Cultura del Vino – FCV) is offering a new scholarship to a student in the Institute of Masters of Wine’s Study Programme.
The scholarship, which is part of an ongoing collaboration between the Institute of Masters of Wine and FCV, is open to all MW students of Spanish nationality as well as to any international students who are domiciled in Spain. The scholarship winner will be provided with the following:
- € 4,000 towards the Institute’s fees, trips, tastings and other related costs.
- A tour to some of the facilities in Spain belonging to the wineries of the Foundation, which include Vinos de los Herederos del Marqués de Riscal, La Rioja Alta, S.A., Bodegas Muga, Bodegas Terras Gauda S.A., and Vega Sicilia.
The Foundation for Wine Culture (Fundación para la Cultura del Vino) was originally established by the Spanish Ministry of Culture, Education and Science in 1992. In 1997, five private companies joined the foundation; in 2009 two more wineries joined and completed its board. The Foundation specializes in developing educational and promotional activities in the areas of viticulture, oenology and sensory analysis. The Foundation’s objectives are to raise awareness of wine as part of Spain’s cultural heritage; to promote the sensible consumption of quality wine as a healthy choice; and to increase the knowledge and understanding of wine.
FCV will cover travel costs pertaining to the scholarship tour, up to an amount of € 1,000 and will organize the visits and interviews with winemakers, developing the best possible itinerary. The tour shall take place within one year from the announcement of the selected candidate and will be organized in collaboration of the FCV, depending on the availability of wineries and experts in each firm.
The selection of the winner of the scholarship will be made by the FCV in collaboration with the IMW, based on an essay of no more than 1,000 words, submitted by each candidate direct to the FCV before 27 February 2015. The topic for the essay will be decided each year. For 2015, the topic is “Premium and fine wines from Spain: terroir, quality and other arguments for improving their performance in world top end markets”.
The winner of the scholarship will be announced in the first week of May 2015.
The essays submitted will be the property of the Foundation and may be published by the FCV. By submitting an essay, candidates accept assignment of all property and intellectual rights to the Spanish Foundation of Wine Culture.
The Institute of Masters of Wine thanks la Fundación para la Cultura del Vino for this generous offer to its students.
