The 2022 Taylor’s Port Golden Vines® Diversity Scholarships open to applicants

Following the recent press announcement, the IMW is delighted to confirm its support for the 2022 Taylor’s Port Golden Vines® Diversity Scholarships in association with Liquid Icons and the Gerard Basset Wine Education Charitable Foundation.
The Taylor’s Port Golden Vines® Scholarships, Internship and Mentorship Programmes will fund up to three aspiring BAME/BIPOC students wishing to undertake the MW study programme. The scholarship will be worth up to £55,000 per scholar to cover the entirety of their course and exam costs, as well as loss of earnings during their work placement internships.
Any BAME/BIPOC student – wherever they reside – who has the requisite qualifications to apply for the MW programme can apply for the Taylor’s Port Golden Vines® Scholarships online.
The application window is open until 8 April 2022.

In addition to the Taylor’s Port Golden Vines® Scholarships, the judging panel will award four Golden Vines® Master of Wine & Master Sommelier Scholarships worth £12,500 each and 10 Golden Vines® WSG Scholarships.
Through the scholarship application process, there is also an opportunity for BAME/BIPOC students to learn more about the IMW and the study programme.
The IMW will run an ‘Introduction to the IMW’ online session across three geographies for anyone who expresses interest via the Liquid icons application process (session times TBC).
The session will include the opportunity to talk with the IMW’s own BAME/BIPOC MWs, who can share their journey and answer any questions.
In addition to the ‘Introduction to the IMW’ session, any scholarship applicant wishing to apply to the MW study programme via the IMW’s regular admissions process will have their entrance fees funded by the Gerard Basset Education Charitable Foundation.
We encourage everybody with a passion for wine and who satisfies the application criteria to apply for this scholarship and learn more about the IMW.
This initiative is consistent with the IMW’s diversity policy and action plan, available to read here.

About the Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW)
The IMW is a membership organisation with an exceptional international reputation. For almost 70 years, its members – the Masters of Wine (MWs) – have been at the forefront of leadership and expertise in the world of wine. The IMW’s mission is to promote excellence, interaction and learning across all sectors of the global wine community. MWs prove their comprehensive understanding of wine by passing the MW exam, recognised worldwide for its rigour and exacting standards. In addition to passing the exam, members must sign the code of conduct before they are entitled to use the initials MW. This requires them to uphold the highest standards of commercial conduct within the industry. Today, there are 415 Masters of Wine working in 31 countries. The membership encompasses winemakers, sommeliers, buyers, journalists, shippers, consultants, viticulturalists, academics, educators and more. There are 349 students from 40 countries in the 2022-23 MW study programme. The IMW works with 36 supporters and three research and industry associates, who help promote the IMW’s mission. The five principal supporters are Austrian Wine, AXA Millésimes, Constellation Brands, the Madame Bollinger Foundation, and Waitrose and Partners.
