Ronn Wiegand is from the San Francisco Bay Area. His interest in wine was spurred by a year-long visit to Europe, where he attended Stirling University, in Scotland. He became a Sommelier in 1975 and moved to London in 1977 where he worked for Davy's of London. He relocated to Napa Valley in 1980 and spent three decades there, tasting, writing, teaching, and consulting. Over the years, he has published hundreds of articles on wine; judged at wine competitions in the U.S. and abroad; taught extensive wine tasting classes; and spoken at dozens of wine trade meetings, conferences, and conventions, primarily in the U.S.A. Currently, he publishes a trade journal for the US hospitality industry, Restaurant Wine, which he founded in 1988. He lives in Tokaj, where his wife’s family owns Erzsebet Pince, an estate winery founded in 1993.
