Alto Jahuel – the jewel in the Alto Maipo crown

Description

MW students and Masters of Wine are invited to meet three winemakers at the forefront of Chile’s wine scene who will conduct an in-depth exploration of the Alto Jahuel region, a specific area within the Alto Maipo, Chile.

This region, located in the foothills of the Andes has an international reputation for producing some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon’s in the world. Over the last 20 years this area has been the subject of much research within Santa Rita Estates, culminating in a US$30 million vineyard regeneration scheme known as WiSe. This masterclass will cover findings from soil studies, research and development and will include both finished and unblended wines.

The event will be hosted in person by Richard Bampfield MW who will be joined, via live video link, by Sebastian Labbe (head winemaker, Viña Santa Rita), Emily Faulconer (head winemaker, Viña Carmen) and Andres Ilabaca (head of research and development, Santa Rita Estates).
