Description
This event has passed.
One vintage, four provinces, six sub-regions. With more than 1,000 km apart and altitudes ranging from 1200 to 2000, this event will be an eye opener for anyone keen to fully understand the relationship between the vineyard, the impact of key viticultural decisions, and the resulting wine.
Hosted by Richard Bampfield MW and Madeleine Stenwreth MW, the line up will also offer the opportunity to evaluate and discuss the effect of blending and co-fermentation of Malbec with Cabernet Franc, or Cabernet Sauvignon.
With the decision of only showing wines from the cool 2017 vintage, the tasting will allow a clear focus on showcasing the influence of terroir on Malbec through the understanding of all aspects of geology, soils, altitude, climate, through to the effects of viticultural decisions such as the choice of rootstocks vs own rooted vines, clones vs massal selection, vine age, trellising systems and irrigation management.
A real bonus to this lineup is that Madeleine has just arrived back from working for some weeks in Argentina and decided to bring three more wines to be added to this session to further highlight some of the developments in the country.
You will taste:
- 2017 El Esteco Fincas Notables Malbec, Cafayate, Salta, Valles Calchaquies
- 2017 Sagrado el Pedernal Malbec, Pedernal Valley, San Juan
- 2017 Finca Coletto Single Vineyard Malbec, El Peral, Uco Valley, Mendoza
- 2017 Finca Ambrosia Single Vineyard Malbec, Gualtallary, Uco Valley, Mendoza
- 2017 Trapiche Iscay Malbec Cabernet Franc, Uco Valley, Mendoza
- 2017 Chañar Punco Malbec Cabernet Sauvignon, Catamarca, Valles Calchaquies
