Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, Taboadella and Herdade Aldeia de Cima are three Portuguese wine projects led by Luisa Amorim across the Douro, Dão and Alentejo.
Together, they express a distinctive vision of Portuguese wine shaped by origin, cultural identity and a profound respect for terroir. Across three markedly different landscapes, these projects bring together historic vineyards, native grape varieties, architecture, hospitality and a long-term commitment to portraying Portugal through wine with authenticity, ambition and an international outlook. They also reflect the richness of a country with more than 250 native grape varieties and one of the world’s deepest traditions of blending.
As part of the Amorim family’s wine legacy, Luisa Amorim oversees Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo in the Douro and Taboadella in the Dão. She is also behind Herdade Aldeia de Cima in the Alentejo, a private project that further reflects her long-standing commitment to Portuguese wine culture and the diversity of the country’s terroirs.
Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo is one of the Douro’s most historic estates, with deep roots in the founding history of the region. Located on the river’s founding bank and already recognised within the Douro’s first historic demarcation, established in the eighteenth century to identify the region’s finest wines for export, it combines centuries of wine heritage with a strikingly contemporary vision of the Douro. Its historic winery dates to 1764, and the estate unfolds across 120 hectares, including 41 vineyard parcels laid out in mosaic across dramatic schist terraces above the river. It is also home to seven hectares of centenary vines and has played a pioneering role in regional hospitality, launching the Douro’s first integrated wine tourism project in 2005, today expressed through Quinta Nova Winery House Relais & Châteaux.
Taboadella is a historic Dão estate where wine, archaeology, architecture and landscape come together in a profoundly distinctive way. With traces of occupation dating back to the Roman era, 42 hectares of vineyards across 27 parcels, granite soils and mountain viticulture at altitude, it expresses an elegant and contemporary interpretation of the Dão. Surrounded by forest and shaped by the influence of five mountain ranges, including Serra da Estrela, it is a place defined by freshness, precision and cultural depth. Its identity is closely tied to native grape varieties such as Encruzado, Alfrocheiro and Touriga Nacional, as well as to the winery designed by Carlos Castanheira, the Barrel Top Walk, commented tastings and the quiet sophistication of Casa Villae 1255 Relais & Châteaux.
Herdade Aldeia de Cima offers a singular perspective on the Alentejo, shaped by altitude, Atlantic influence and an exceptional relationship with biodiversity. Located in the Serra do Mendro, it challenges conventional perceptions of the region through an identity built on freshness, precision and strong territorial character. The estate comprises 22 vineyard parcels spread across different sites and soil types within a vast 3,500-hectare cork oak ecosystem, where viticulture is developed in close dialogue with landscape and ecological balance. Working predominantly with native grape varieties and drawing on a diverse range of ageing vessels and materials, the project expresses a different Alentejo: more lifted, more nuanced and more closely tied to the rhythms of nature.
Through their support of the Institute of Masters of Wine, these three projects reaffirm a shared belief in the value of wine education, knowledge exchange and international dialogue, while helping bring the depth, diversity and singularity of Portuguese wine to a global audience.
