SUSTAINABILITY

The IMW believes that the future success of the global wine trade depends on the trade’s approach to sustainability issues today. We recognise that sustainability is multi-faceted and industries around the world are grappling with how to be more sustainable whilst preserving business and the planet for future generations.

STATEMENT OF INTENT

As part of the IMW mission to promote excellence, interaction and learning, we will work to increase understanding of the complex, interconnected issues of environmental, social and economic sustainability in the global wine trade capturing the diverse expertise and creativity within the IMW community to develop and promote best practices.

The global wine trade must recognise its environmental responsibility through its use of natural resources, fossil fuels, chemicals and CO2 emissions. The IMW commits to minimising the environmental impact of its activities around the world whilst maintaining the learning experience and integrity of the exam with a goal to achieving carbon neutral status and minimising waste by 2025.

STRATEGY

To achieve carbon neutral status and minimise waste for IMW activities by 2025 whilst maintaining the high standard of learning experience, integrity of the exam and recognising limited human and financial resources of not-for-profit membership organisation.

To increase understanding of the complex, interconnected issues of environmental, social and economic sustainability in the global wine trade tapping into the diverse expertise and creativity within IMW community to share and promote best practices.
