Tan Ying Hsien is a wine journalist, speaker and educator based in Singapore. He owns Taberna Wine Academy where he conducts tastings and classes. He also provides wine consultancy services to restaurants. Ying has judged at numerous international wine competitions all over the world such as the International Wine Challenges in Singapore and the Decanter Asia Wine Awards in Hong Kong. He has also judged at sommelier competitions. Ying won the IMW Champagne Trinity Scholarship 2010 and was nominated to attend the Master Napa Programme in September 2013. He also won a French Wine Society scholarship for the Sud de France Master Level Program in 2013 and the 2013 AXA Millésime Scholarship for MW students. Ying started his interest in wine in 1983 while pursuing university studies in the United Kingdom. He qualified and worked as a lawyer for more than 22 years specialising in banking law and financial services regulation before turning to wine as a profession in 2010. He is a member of the Ordre des Côteaux de Champagne, La Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin and Commanderie de Bordeaux.
